Who's Catherine Jamieson?

Photos are selected at random from a "self" set of about images. I either look exactly like this, not at all like this, something like this, not like this anymore or yes, that's really me.

Who am I? 44, writer, photographer, gardener, retired business executive, mother of two college aged children. Where do I live? Around the 100th Meridian where the Great Plains begin. Flatland. Big sky country. I'm Catherine Jamieson and welcome to my site.

This is about celebrating. Everything.

I have a small portrait business where I take unusual portraits of people where, often, the person's face is not visible. Yes, highly specialized. I also do commercial artwork, stock photography, to-order studio work and a variety of other related odd-jobs.

My book, Create Your Own Photo Blog, is being released by Wiley & Sons in April of 2006. Hey, what can I say? I honestly do believe everyone with a camera should have their very own photo blog - this is my effort to see if I can help with that. I have a second book coming out in the fall titled Digital Portrait Photography, also published by Wiley - details soon.

I'm in the middle of working with a highly motivated and talented bunch of people to create a new community site called utata.org in which we bill ourselves as a "semi-civil tribe" of photographers and writers and in between that project and this site and the book and the one day in the future dream I am really pretty darn busy.

History

I've been on the web since and making my own sites since the early nineties ... there have been quite a slew of them over the years - on owned domains and in rented space and even tucked under someone else's domain - from Naked Eye, Ephemera, Modern Anthology, LivingArt, Graffiti, The Story Project to the current eponymous site which you see here before you.

Over the years I've won a number of awards (Forbes Magazine selected this site as one of the Five Best Photoblogs on the internet in 2004, CBC Radio3 (Vol II, Iss 27) Featured my work in their magazine, Winnipeg Free Press did a feature story on me/photoblogging, Tampa Tribune listed this site as a favorite photo pick in 2004, Shutterbug Magazine mentions this site in an article on photoblogging (January 2005), I have won a diarist.net "Best New Journal" award, etc.) and been recognized in a variety of ways but the web is fluid and I am more fluid than most webmasters so it's hard to say exactly what survives of any of the work which was recognized. So, let's say that I've been on the web a long time, have waxed and waned and this is what's left.

Technical

This site is developed using hand coded, tableless, css-based HTML inside of the Movable Type content management system. All mistakes are mine. My thanks to all those who have figured out the tricks and tips before I got to the questions. Special thanks to the help from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Adobe and Macromedia products.

I store all photogaphs on an account on flickr from which I hotlink via embedded Movable Type tags. Thanks to them for their excellent service and lovely site.

Thanks to my most excellent Web Host company, NEXCESS.NET who provides quite possibly the best customer service I have ever had and who put up with all sorts of silly questions from me when I was setting everything up.

And special thanks to Irina Souiki, who taught me pretty well everything I know about anything important and who pulled some pretty long hours helping me make it all work.

Copyright

All work, unless otherwise noted, is published under an all rights reserved copyright held by Catherine Jamieson. Please respect this by not using my work without my permission. That said, I can't remember the last time I said "no" to someone who wanted to use something.

Donations

Donations and other acts of kindness keep the site going and without blubbering all over you, let me say they are VERY much appreciated. That all said, thank you for coming, thank you for your interest, thank you for reading this far.
