So. I can think of body parts I would rather lose than create illustrations. I'd rather write the entire Desiderata in Sanskrit while standing on my cat's head and reciting every second line from every second Shakespearean sonnet.

You probably think I'm joking. But I tell you, My cats ALL have flat heads and I have the Desiderata right here next to the Sanskrit manual. Right here.

I do not much like to wash floors either, frankly, but it must be done. And so did an illustration I was trying to create for an explanation of DPI as it relates to screen viewing and printing. It's no small coincidence that the idea I eventually had (after I watered the HELL of out the newly bloomed peonies) involved ripping things up and playing with crayons and school scissors and stuff.

I'm one of those mothers who has children who say things like "Mom, will you pleeeeeeeeeease put away your crayons!"

If you click on the comments link you can read the basic idea of the DPI information - which, after I water the hosta, I shall find a way to explain succinctly. But, really, if we learn anything from this, it's not to print photographs at 72 DPI on a laser printer or you will look like that.

As my youngest kid just said, "Wow, that's brave of you, Mom."

Some days I'd like to water her.

Photography is more than a medium for factual communication of ideas. It is a creative art.
